Welcome to the Reflections
page of our web site.
As Lorcas family, we cherish the many and varied
memories we have of him - as a toddler, a teenager and
a young man. But, as with all humans, there are things
we most certainly dont know about his life. We
invite you to send us a note telling a Lorca story which
we then would like your permission to post here so that
the stories we collect can be shared with all the visitors
to the web site.
Losing Lorca was a most devastating event
in our family. Prior to his death, we lived our lives
like most everyone else: building dreams, planning for
our futures, grappling with the day to day rewards and
disappointments, never considering that something could
ever happen to shatter those plans and dreams. That
always happens to someone else. Then, one
day it happened to us and the life we thought was so
safe suddenly fell apart. All the pieces of our dreams
were shattered. The struggle to rebuild our lives and
somehow fill the void of our missing piece - Lorca -
became like a jigsaw puzzle with us trying to fit pieces
of different shapes and sizes to bring it all together
again. We walked through a fog, unable to focus, feeling
as if we were living a nightmare. We were almost numb
from the pain and sadness of our grief. We were angry
that his life had been ended. We were angry that he
had been taken from us. Sometimes our emotions got the
best of us and we went into a depression and wanted
to just crawl into a hole and stay there.
Letting ourselves become lost in our grief
would not have been fair to ourselves and all our other
family members and friends. Not fair, either, to the
one we loved - Lorca. And that is why we created the
Lorca Venetos Music Fund; that is why we created this
web site; and that is why we invite you to send us your
thoughts. Lorca was more than our son, more than our
brother, more than our friend; more than a musician
and he is more than a memory. Please help us honor his
short life by contributing your own personal reflection
of Lorca. Thank you.- Lorca's Mother, Nancy
