Lorca Alexander Venetos
October 27,1973 - April 9, 1998

Lorca was born in New York City on October 27, 1973. He was raised in the city and attended P.S. 234, P.S. 41, St. Luke's School, Columbia Preparatory High School, and the Beekman School. In addition, he studied at CUNY, Hunter College for two years.

He was a versatile and accomplished guitarist whose interest focused mainly on rock, blues, flamenco, and other latin styles. His physical command of the guitar and openness to different influences he enjoyed allowed him the freedom to synthesize and create his own unique style. Lorca began his musical education at the age of 6 with piano lessons, which he continued until the age of 12, when he picked up the guitar. He was an extraordinarily dedicated musician. From the age of 16 until shortly before his move to California he performed with several bands, playing clubs in and around New York City. He also left many recordings of his music, some playing with others but many where he played lead, rythm, and bass guitar with drum machine accompaniment. Even though he began with private instruction and intermittently utilized the knowledge and experience of teachers, he was mostly self-taught.

He moved to Los Angleles in September 1997 with the hope of finding a manager/promoter and getting a record contract.

In addition to music, Lorca was interested in eastern philosophy and religion, particularly Taoism. From the age of 10, he also studied various forms of martial arts but favored Kung-Fu. He liked to cook, mostly spicy food and was interested in languages and travel.

On April 4, 1998, while walking across Sunset Boulevard and Curson Avenue, Lorca was struck by a hit-and-run driver of a sports utility vehicle. He was taken to Cedars Sinai Hospital where he received emergency heart surgery and lay in the intensive care unit until his death on April 9, 1998. The car and driver have not yet been located.

Lorca possessed a wry wit and a great sense of humor. He had a way with words and enjoyed making other people laugh. He was close to all members of his family and treated his friends like brothers. His death is a tragedy and he will be terribly, deeply missed.

He is survived by his parents, George and Nancy, his brother Ezra, his brother Jason and sister-in-law Laure, and his nephews Jack and Kyle. He is also survived by three grandparents and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
